Christian Moueix needs no special introduction as he is considered one of the most important wine producers worldwide . Together with his father Jean Pierre, and within a few decades Christian created a unique collection of Chateaux wines in the village of Pomerol in Bordeaux, but also contributed enormously in making this Appellation Controlee synonymous with some of the most famous, rarest but also most expensive red wines produced in the world.
The list of Chateaux wines owned or exclusively distributed by Christian speaks for itself - Madgelaine, Belair, Latour-a-Pomerol, La Fleur Pétrus, Lafleur, Trotanoy and on most impressively, the legendary Pétrus. Also, Christian was one of the first Frenchmen to invest in California, in 1982, producing high quality red wines in the Dominus winery. During the seminar and with his well-know explanatory and yet approachable way, Christian spoke with disarming humility about his personal philosophy on the cultivation of the vine, about a non-invasive approach to wine-making, about the curse of "black 'wines' and wine critics who promote them and finally about the "flying consulting oenologists," who , he commented "are certainly a lot smarter than me."
Participants had the unique opportunity to sample seven wines from the same year, the exceptional 2001, but also coming from the same region, with Christian continually giving details about the soil variations and oenological differences between them. The wines presented were the Chateaux Moulinet, Latour-a-Pomerol, Gazin, Lafleur Petrus, Hosanna, Trotanoy and last but not least, the Pétrus. The seminar was open to graduates and students of Level 3 - Advanced Certificate / Higher International Certificate.
