The scholarship covers a four- day educational trip with the scholarship winner having a working residence in the modern winery and the vineyards of BIBLIA CHORA Estate, where the Greek varieties Assyrtiko and Agiorgitiko and international varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Chardonnay, Syrah, Gewürztraminer, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are grown organically and with utmost respect to the local fauna. The Scholarship was awarded to Mr. Michailos Gregory AIWS - graduate of the WSET® DIPLOMA. Granted for the best average score of a graduate of the fifth unit WSET® Diploma, Sparkling Wines (Unit 5: Sparkling Wines of the World). The scholarship winner will travel for three days to Reims in the Champagne district. The educational trip is to include a visit to the imposing tower of Madame Pommery and to make the acquaintance of the oenologist - a legend in the Champagne establishment - Mr. Thierry Gasco. In addition, a visit around the property, dinner in a specially designated area within the winery and a tour of the of many kilometres of corridors in the cellars of the estate, tens of metres under the ground! This scholarship was also granted to Mr. Michailos Gregory AIWS - graduate of the WSET® DIPLOMA. It is worth mentioning that Mr.. Michailos AIWS passed the Diploma with Merit. Granted for the best paper / project submitted before April 30, 2008 by students at Levels 3 & WSET® Diploma entitled "Should ' improving' varieties be allowed in the PDO wines of our country?" The Scholarship of the newspaper 'Ambelotopi" ' for 2008 is as follows: We ask for a journalistic research article of between 2000-2500 words. The requirements are for a journalistic research with interviews and reports covering what is happening in other countries, with a conclusion which does not necessarily have to be the opinion of the writer. In other words we are not asking for an opinion article but a journalistic report. The Scholarship of the 'Ambelotopio' consists of, firstly the publication of the award article and secondly, that its author to be sent to an exhibition abroad with all expenses paid. The scholarship was announced and presented at the graduation ceremony of the WSPC by the President of VINETUM and the President of the "Greek Wine Journalists Union / ELDOIN" Mr. Constantine Stergides. The student who excelled and whose article was published was Mr. Lazarus Gatselos AIWS.
